Beanie Babies , the Grateful Dead, and Sold Out

Developed by Ty Warner, Inc., Beanie Babies were all the rage in the 1990's and collecting beanie babies in the 90's was very popular for children and kids alike. Starting in late 1996, a mad craze of collecting Beanie Babies began. Often times the more popular and often discontinued dolls would sell for premiums of several hundreds of dollars. In fact, I am certain there are still active collectors trading and buying discontinued beanie babies. However, the mad craze for collecting beanie babies has definitely slowed in recent years and the fad didn't make it past 1999.

All that being said, the beanie babies have secured their place in the history of the 90's and consequently I'll offer a trivia question for them.

Often times, the most desired beanie babies were the ones that were discontinued or "sold out." This limited supply drove the after market price for these dolls way above their original retail prices. So, what was the first beanie babies to be announced as "sold out" on the Beanie Babies website?

Bonus Question: The "Garcia the Bear" doll was often considered to be created in the likeness of Grateful Dead singer Jerry Garcia but Ty Warner never officially announced it. Another popular theory about this doll is that it was created in the likeness of one a previous top-selling doll. What was the name of this previous top-selling beanie?

With the popularity I have seen with my 80's trivia questions site, I decided to start a 90's trivia site as well. This site will be similar to other - I will post trivia questions on a weekly basis and reveal the answers the following week. Unfortunately I dont have and trivia questions at this moment, but I am working to get this site all set up and ready to go before I start posting the trivia questions.

With any luck, I should have the first question sometime this week - so check back soon.
